A.L. Dungan Jr., 91, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey Leon Dungan Sr., and Alma Virginia Woody Dungan; one sister, Dorothy Virginia Dungan and a brother, James W. Woody. He was an active member of Seven Mile Ford U.M.C, a member of the Chilhowie U.M.C. Men's Club as well as a member of Seven Mile Ford Ruritan Club for fifty-two and a half years and made many friends in Southwest Virginia within other Ruritan clubs as Captain of the Salvation Army (red kettle). A.L. was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Europe Occupation after World War II and served during Korean War. He retired from Brunswick Corporation and a retired farmer. His greatest enjoyment was being a member of the V.F.W. Post 4667 and working with V.F.W. members and Town officials placing flags and crosses on the courthouse lawn for Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty V. Dungan; Daughters, Katrina Carlton of Marion, Va., Deborah Dungan of Marion, Va., and Lisa Dungan Sturgill and husband Daniel of Chilhowie, Va.; Grandchildren, Josh Branson and wife Kelly, Bristol, TN., Whitney Archer and husband Chris of Chilhowie; Great grandchildren, Logan Branson, Briley Branson, Gracie Archer, Chaney Archer, and River Archer; One sister, Nancy Hart and her son, Allen of Marion, Va., One brother, Alfred M. Dungan and wife Rosetta of Baltimore, MD. Due to current Covid-19 conditions all funeral services will be private.
