Arlis Ray Crutchfield, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Johnson Memorial Hospital with his loving wife of 55 years by his side.

He was born November 11, 1943 to the late George Allen and Inez Bean Crutchfield in Smyth County, Va.

Arlis graduated from Chilhowie High School and proudly served in the US Army. He was a Park Ranger at Douthat State Park for a time and later drove a fuel truck for Rouse Home Fuel in Chilhowie. He eventually went to work at W-L Construction where he spent over 30 years as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and Parts Manager. He had masterful mechanic skills and there wasn't anything he couldn't tinker with and fix.

Arlis loved his family and friends dearly and never met a stranger. He truly enjoyed helping people and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He loved the Lord, his Pastor Jay Overbay and his church, Joy Baptist Church of which he was a charter member. He was an avid Chilhowie Athletics supporter where he rarely missed a home sporting event.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Williams Crutchfield; two sons, Bryan Crutchfield and wife Karen of Wise, Va; Stephen Crutchfield and fiancée Lisa Grigsby of Chilhowie, Va; seven grandchildren, Carly, Rainni, Colby, Abbie and Brandon Crutchfield and Keylie and Brandon Brewer; three great-grandchildren, Kason, Carter and Rowan; brother Duane Crutchfield and wife Judy of Provo, UT as well as many nieces and nephews

Funeral Services will be conducted 7 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021, at Joy Baptist Church with Pastor Jay Overbay officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Middlefork Cemetery.
