Douglas Eugene "Gene" Davidson, 82, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at his home in Adwolfe surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born on Sept. 4, 1935 in Washington County, Va. to the late Henry and Bessie Harper Davidson.
He retired from Terry's Inc. of Bristol after 30 years of working as a route salesman. Gene was a kind and gentle person who had a great sense of humor and loved animals.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas "Buck" Davidson and Totten Davidson; two sisters, Dorothy Juanita Helton and Claire "Trumpy" Davidson; father-in-law, Alexander N. Taylor; brother-in-law, Oliver Helton; and nephew, Walter E. Clark.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Phyllis Ann Taylor Davidson; two sons, Marcus Allen Melton and Jerry Otis Melton, Jr. and wife Kim; one granddaughter, Katelyn Grace Melton; nieces, Connie Cullop of Chilhowie, Joanne Clark and Karen Rose Anderson and husband Mike all of Marion; great niece, Penny Clark Everett and husband Gary of Christiansburg; great nephews, Joey and James Cullop; mother-in-law, Doris Hayes Taylor of Chilhowie; brother-in-law, Larry Wayne Taylor and wife Jean of Chilhowie and Richard "Rick" Taylor and wife Linda of Saltville; and his favorite pet "Scrapper"
Memorial services will be held to honor his memory 7 PM Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Haga officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 PM Sunday prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Ethan Miller and the staff of Forest Family Care in Wytheville, Va. for all their loving care during Gene's lengthy illness.
