Mildred Seymour Hughes, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 11, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
Mildred was born, raised, and lived all her life in Chilhowie, Va. and was a devoted member of Riverside Baptist Church.
She had a passionate love for her church and served many roles including Sunday School teacher. She worked at Harwood of Marion and Buster Brown of Chilhowie for many years before retiring to become a full time grandmother. The love and devotion she had for family and friends was evident to all those that knew her.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Nannie Seymour; sister, Edith Seymour; and brother, Norman Ashburn.
Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, James Hughes; daughter, Karen Gillespie and son-in-law, Ronnie of Chilhowie; sister, Sue Glass and husband Al of Chilhowie; sister-in-law, Barbara Ashburn McClure of Chilhowie; two grandsons, Brandon Gillespie and wife Cary of Chilhowie and Christopher Gillespie and wife Beth of Bristol, TN.; three great grandsons, Mason, Lincoln, and Noah.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 at the Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Frazier and Rev. Ed Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021 at Williams Funeral Home. Masks and social distancing should be followed per Covid 19 guidelines.
The family would like to thank Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia and special niece/caregiver, Susan Wagner.
