Ora Elena Robinson Bonham, age 92, of Chilhowie, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on December 10. She was born November 27, 1924 , to the late Mahlon and Bess Robinson of Glade Spring, Va. Ora Elena was a graduate of Va. Intermont College and Mary Washington College (1946). On June 14, 1947 , she married James B. Bonham Jr. They were married for 57 years until his death in 2004. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Louise R. Howe, Sarah R. Fitzgerald and John R. Robinson II. She is survived by her sister Gene R. Cole and husband Jim of Abingdon and her sister-in-law Peggy L. Robinson of Glade Spring.

She is also survived by her children, Ellen B. Goode and husband Larry of Raleigh, N.C., James B. Bonham III and wife Susan of Chilhowie, and Becky B. Andrews and husband Mac of Leesburg, Fla. Grandchildren surviving are Whitney Bonham of Abingdon, Leigh Kramarczuk and husband Nick of Minneapolis, Minn., and Ben Andrews and wife Annie and one great-grandchild, Cooper Jane Andrews, all of Bluffton, S.C. Also, several nieces and nephews survive.
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to her loyal caregivers whom she loved and considered as family.

Ora Elena served in her church and community throughout her life. As a longtime, active member of St. James Lutheran Church, she and husband Jimmie were the keepers of the church paraments for many years. Ora Elena was active as a Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Weekday Church School teacher, a member and leader of the Women of the Church, and always involved in church dinners. She actively supported the community with the PTA, Band Boosters and Scouts. Ora Elena was one of those people you could always count on!

Ora Elena was a beautiful, optimistic lady. She loved visits from family and friends, bird watching and crossword puzzles (in her later days), chocolate and good country ham (always). As a founding member of the "Newcomers" bridge club, Ora Elena enjoyed her club for over 60 years. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 28 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Chilhowie with Pastors Harvey Atkinson and David Sloop officiating. Interment will follow at St. James cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the St. James Cemetery Fund in care of St. James Lutheran Church, Box 796, Chilhowie, Va. 24319.
