T.L. "Junior" Sturgill Jr., age 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on Friday, August 11, 2017. He was a faithful member of the Chilhowie Baptist Church, where he sang bass in the choir. He was a talented musician and sang in many gospel quartets. He was retired from the H.S. Williams Company. Junior was an avid Chilhowie Warriors fan and a 1956 graduate of Chilhowie High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball before going on to attend Emory and Henry College where he played football as well. He also coached many sports teams through which he touched the lives of many young people. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.L. and Etta Mae Sturgill, Sr., his mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Helen Goodman, brother-in-law, Charlie Goodman; nephew, Danny Harlow and niece, Crystal Harlow. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Pat Goodman Sturgill; his children, Mike Sturgill and wife Kim, Randy Sturgill and wife Julie, Trish Sturgill, and David Sturgill, all of Chilhowie; eight grandchildren, Rhett and Reid Sturgill, Jeb and Jensen Sturgill, Luke and Audrey Newton, and Andrew and Malorie Sturgill; two great grandchildren, Bentley Derrick and Carter Sturgill; sister, Susan Sturgill Harlow and husband Charles; brother and sister-in-law, Philip Aker and wife Carroll; sister-in-law, Sandy Goodman; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and church family. Funeral services will be conducted 7:30 PM Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Chilhowie Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Herrell, Pastor Fred Conley, Pastor David Hodges, and Pastor Cecil Sturgill officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday, August 15 in the McClure Cemetery in Chilhowie. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:30 PM Monday prior to the funeral service at the church.
